On the 24th, Mimetics announced that it completed the 14th Kibo Venture Camp and participated in the integrated Demo Day on the 14th.
The Kibo Venture Camp is an innovation-driven startup support program run in collaboration with the Korea Technology Finance Corporation (KIBO) and private accelerators to nurture promising star venture companies. Selected companies receive support including ▲ customized technology-backed guarantees, ▲ preferential programs for up to 25% of outstanding participants, ▲ business plan and model presentations and investor IR sessions, and ▲ funding opportunities through connections with private VCs, angel investors, and recommendations for crowdfunding.
Mimetics, which began as a student startup at Sungkyunkwan University, has steadily enhanced its R&D capabilities over the past five years in collaboration with Professor Chang-Hyun Bang and his research team. The company currently holds four technology transfers and over 30 domestic and international patents.
Previously, Mimetics observed how octopuses adhere strongly to various surfaces regardless of environmental conditions or roughness, and through theoretical and experimental studies, elucidated that the micro three-dimensional dome structures of suction cups generate physical negative pressure, allowing attachment independent of surface characteristics.
Unlike acrylic-based adhesives, the octopus-inspired 3D dome structures provide adhesion through physical negative pressure without leaving sticky chemical residues on the skin. Mimetics has also developed a wearable patch platform that applies negative pressure to the stratum corneum to create microchannels for drug delivery, with a new product scheduled for release in August. A company representative explained, “This is a more consumer-friendly adhesive patch,” adding, “We have been actively conducting research to enter the transdermal drug delivery market.”
The representative continued, “Based on our innovative adhesion technology, we aim to grow as a leading global healthcare solutions company. Completing the Kibo Venture Camp allows us to refine our investment and funding strategies and accelerate our global expansion.”
