MIMETICS Co., Ltd. announced on the 18th that it participated in NextRise 2024, held at COEX from June 13 to 14, where it exhibited its products and operated a company booth.
NextRise 2024, organized by the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) and the Korea Development Bank, is the largest startup event in Korea, attracting 1,500 domestic and international startups. In addition to the exhibition, the event featured Asia’s largest 1:1 business meetups, startup IR pitching sessions, partner events, and various other programs.
MIMETICS, a startup providing skin beauty and medical solutions using biomimetic technologies inspired by plants and animals, showcased a wearable patch product based on octopus suction structures at this year’s NextRise.
According to the company, MIMETICS has theoretically and experimentally verified that the fine three-dimensional dome structures found in octopus suckers generate physical negative pressure, allowing the patch to adhere regardless of environmental or surface conditions. The 3D dome structure maintains excellent adhesion even on moist skin, water, or silicone oil, and because it relies on physical negative pressure for adhesion, it is consumer-friendly.
This year, MIMETICS has continued active research toward entering the transdermal drug delivery market, using the octopus-inspired 3D dome structure. By applying negative pressure to the stratum corneum to create micro-channels, the company has developed a wearable patch capable of delivering drugs, with research confirming that substances such as hyaluronic acid and peptides, over 500 Daltons, can penetrate up to three times more effectively.
Park Hyung-ki, CEO of MIMETICS, stated, “This is our first participation in NextRise 2024, and seeing so many startups in one place has been highly motivating. We plan to launch a patch product in July or August that can be used with cosmetics to enhance their absorption.”
