MIMETICS Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Hyung-ki) was awarded the grand prize at the Suwon Company IR Day ‘Suwon.PANN 1st Cohort,’ held on the 7th in the Central Conference Room of Suwon City Hall.
Suwon Company IR Day ‘Suwon.PANN’ is a program designed to identify promising small, venture, and startup companies in Suwon, strengthen their investor relations (IR) capabilities, and provide opportunities for investment.
Investment professionals, including representatives from the Suwon Saebit Fund management company, evaluated companies based on business capability, feasibility, technological innovation, market potential, and impact. Three outstanding companies were selected, with MIMETICS receiving the grand prize.
MIMETICS, a startup founded by students of Sungkyunkwan University, has continuously strengthened its R&D capabilities over the past five years through collaboration with Professor Bang Chang-hyun and his research team, securing significant research data.
The company, which specializes in finding solutions inspired by nature, discovered through research that the fine three-dimensional dome structures in octopus suckers generate physical negative pressure, enabling adhesion regardless of environmental or surface conditions. These 3D dome structures maintain excellent adhesion on moist skin, water, and silicone oil, making them suitable for consumer-friendly adhesive patches.
Recently, MIMETICS has developed a wearable patch platform for transdermal drug delivery. By applying negative pressure to the stratum corneum to create micro-channels, the platform enhances the delivery of drugs that are difficult to penetrate the skin, such as hyaluronic acid and peptides over 500 Daltons, increasing penetration depth by up to three times.
Through this safe and highly effective skin-adhesive technology, the platform can potentially be applied across various industries, including cosmetics, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals. MIMETICS plans to launch cosmetic patch products later this year.
CEO Park Hyung-ki stated, “We aim to provide solutions for skin beauty, wound care, and atopic conditions, lowering barriers for homecare while delivering safe and effective products that improve skin through enhanced drug delivery.”
